Downstairs Flooring – Projects

This weekend we finished cleaning up under the downstairs floorboards. Our contractor is going to start in 2 weeks on replacing the bad floor joists. Afterwards they will install a new sub-floor and re-install the original floor boards. Finally, we will have them sanded and sealed for another 50 years of usage:)

Here are the original floorboards to be re-installed. We still need to remove nails and place them in piles based on size to make it easier for the flooring contractor.

We had to make room in our garage area to place all the extra wood from the retail area. We are storing any extra wood for future projects.

As for the upstairs, we continue to work on numerous projects. Here is the buffet we just finished painting. We still need to mount a painting above it.

In the next couple of weeks we will be finishing the downstairs, having the upstairs front door replaced, and cleaning up the bar stools to be placed along the kitchen island. The front door was not installed correctly and we are having to replace it.

More Projects

We continue to gain more and more projects. Here is an antique buffet we are restoring to go upstairs next to our front door. We are going to place our white marble Italian statues on it.

Another project is bar stools. We had the pads recovered and now we need to clean the metal, paint where needed, and then put them back together. We are going to place them along the Kitchen Island and the Camera Bar.

We also were able to clean out one of our storage units. Only one more to go!!!!!

This is a part from the Consolidated Lithograph we are turning into a bar area upstairs that we had in storage.

Finally this past week we had our internet speeds increased. When we moved in we went with AT&T. All AT&T could provide us was DSL at 18Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. Everything was slow and our security cameras would not work correctly. We finally changed over to Spectrum Business, Its 400 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up. Much better. They did have some challenges though getting it into the building and avoiding the power lines.

Flooring Cleanup

The downstairs flooring continues. We finished exposing the broken floor joists and now we are cleaning up all the trash, old wood, and broken bricks left over from the years.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW thumb 34c0

We are having to replace almost all of the floor joists on the east wall.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW thumb 34bd

And here is the final pile of wood we saved. We will need to remove the nails, plane/even them up, and then our contractor will reuse them above the new subfloor/floor joists.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW thumb 34bf

Along with the flooring we continue with our numerous projects. We found some bar stools for upstairs. We removed the seat pads and are having them recovered.

And finally an overview of the upstairs from when you walk up the south-side stairway. Things are coming together.

Downstairs Continues

The downstairs continues. We are having to pull up more of the floor as we find damage.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW thumb 34b4

This photo shows how much the floor joists have failed. Notice against the wall, at one time the floor was level. Also there is a lot of trash that we have to remove and dirt that needs to be leveled out.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW thumb 34b3

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW thumb 34b0

We are having to pull up the floor far enough so our contractor can repair the damage. Hopefully this will be enough. We really do not want to have to redo the complete floor.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW thumb 34b2

We are taking our time, pulling up the old floor, so we can reuse the wood and keep the original look.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW thumb 34b1

It’s a slow process but in the end it will turn out incredible with the original look but with the strength to last another 100 years!!!!!!!!

In Progress Upstairs Photos

It’s still a work in progress. People have been asking for updated photos of the upstairs. We are still unpacking and taking our time arranging everything, so we have not posted that many new photos. We will post complete photos once everything is unpacked, paintings hung, and everything is organized.

Until then, here are a few photos. We installed new light bulbs above the kitchen island. The original Edison Bulbs were not bright enough. We love the stainless steel countertop!!!!!

Our office areas and breakfast table. Lots of open space!!!!

Our bedroom area. We are trying out a new bed cover:)

And finally our front door. We are restoring an antique buffet to place next to the door.

Floor Repair

We are still working on the floor downstairs in the retail space. This weekend we pulled up the boards near the east wall. This week we are going to dig out the dirt under the floor joists. Numerous joists have failed and are in need of repair.

Here are some photos so far of the east wall and where the floor joists have failed.

We are trying to save as much of the wood as possible to keep the original wood floor look.

And finally a view of some of the other areas needing repair.

Evening Lights

Just a few evening lights.

The courthouse looking out our front door.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW thumb 3488

The new light we installed today above the door to the commercial area. It’s an LED that is bluetooth controlled. We can change it during the holiday’s to different colors. That should be fun:)

And some pictures inside. The kitchen area.We are still decorating and getting ready to hang some pictures.

And our bedroom area at night.

Fire Suppression Certified

It’s fully operational, inspected, and hopefully never needed. This past week we had our final inspections and operational tests to certify our fire suppression system.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW thumb 3473

Once we finish the downstairs we would like to encase everything with glass so it’s still accessible but able to be viewed. We think it’s awesome looking!!!!!

Some other events this past week. We were able to recover an old wood door from Patrick’s Floral. They were kind enough to sell it to us before they closed their doors for good. 🙁  We’re sad to see them go, but feel very privileged to hold a piece of Patrick’s History.  We are planning to rebuild the door and use it to replace the door leading into our bathroom area.
